 Here's what's happening in the Wabash Valley...


 

Wednesday mornings, all summer long, Parke Players and the Ritz Theatre, through the generosity of ParkeCounty merchants will present the Free Summer Film Festival at the historic theater in Rockville.  Each Wednesday at 10, everyone is invited to enjoy a free movie...titles will change weekly.

The annual Boy Scout Cookout is Wednesday, July 28th from 11 ‘til 8 at Baesler’s in The MeadowsShopping Center on the corner of 25th and Poplar in Terre Haute.  Boy Scouts from the local Crossroads of America Council will be serving lunch and dinner in a fund-raising event that  supports local scouting programs.  Meals include a grilled bratwurst sandwich or hot dog on a bun, chips, potato salad, a cookie and soft drinks...carry out service will also be available.  For advance tickets and more information, call 232-9496.

 

If you have unused medication of any kind, mark your calendar for Wednesday, July 28th, when you can turn outdated and unused prescriptions in at the Parke County Sheriff’s booth, near the Midway at the Parke County Fair from 4 ‘til 9.  The medications will be collected and properly disposed of.

 

World of Dance,  in Terre Haute, will host a National Dance Day Clinic and Performance on Saturday, July 31st from 10-12:00 noon with the performance at the Terre Haute Rex baseball game on Wednesday, August 4th.  The clinic is open to dancers ages 5 through middle school.  Pre-registration is preferred, but on-site registration will be available.  Cost is $20 per dancer to include clinic fee, shirt, hat, and dancer's ticket to the baseball game.  Please call Amanda at 812-251-4909 to pre-register.

 

Celebrate the return of baseball to Terre Haute at “Play Ball!” Saturday, July 31, 6:30 pm, Tirey Hall, ISU.  There will be Baseball-themed fun, food, and a silent auction with musical performances by ISU’s retired winningest baseball coach, Bob Warn along with Jackie Lynn and Jerry Burns.  All proceeds will go toward the final phases of the preservation of Historic Allen Chapel.  Cost is $55 per person, with reservations requested by Thursday, July 29, at 812 234-2718.

 

Union Hospital in Terre Haute will host “Dog Day For United Way”, Saturday, August 31st...a fitness fun dog walk with registration at 9 and the walk at 9:30.  Entry fee is $20 for the first dog and $10 for each additional dog in the family and the fee includes a free Flea Dip or Dot.  Low cost immunizations will also be available and all proceeds benefit United Way of the WabashValley.  For more information, call 238-4501.

Union Hospital has 3 upcoming events to benefit United Way and this year’s campaign:

Saturday is “Dog Day for United Way”...a Fitness Walk for pets and their owners...reduced cost immunizations and free flea dip or dot will also be available.

August 5th join the special “After Hours” at the Landing at Ft Harrision...at time to network and socialize while raising money for the United Way campaign.

And August 13th is the date for this year’s “U-bay” online auction featuring a number of unique and practical items for bid. 

All proceeds from each event benefit United Way of the WabashValley.

Eugene United Methodist Church will host Vacation Bible School for children kindergarten through 6th grade, August 2 through 5, 6:30-8:30 each evening,  at the church in Eugene, south of the Covered Bridge Restaurant.

Union Hospital invites everyone to the “Oasis” at the Landing at Ft Harrison, Thursday evening, August 5th, 5 ‘til 7.  Cost is $15 per person for appetizers, entertainment and door prizes and all proceeds benefit United Way of the WabashValley.  For tickets and more information contact Union Hospital extensions 4501 or 7186.

 

The Friendly Benwood Community Christian Youth Campground will host an all-you-can-eat County Rhodes Fish Fry, August 7th from 4-7 pm at the campground, at 525 East County Road 1200 North (Rio Grand Road) or 1.5 miles east of Shopmeyer Farm Supply off of SR 59 north of Brazil.  On the menu will be catfish, walleye, popcorn shrimp, chicken strips and all the sides.  Dessert will be available at an extra cost.  Cost is $8 for adults and $6 for kids 12 and under.  Come, eat a great meal and take a tour of the campground.

 

Carbon UnitedMethodistChurch will host it’s 53rd annual homemade Ice Cream Social, Friday, August 13th from 4:30 ‘til 7 at the Church, 5 Miles North of Brazil on State Road 59 and 1 Mile East in Carbon.  A full menu of goodies will be offered along with great homemade ice cream.

 

The Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame 3rd Annual 2010 Picnic & Jam and Open Car Show is Sunday, August 15, Noon till 6:00pm at VFW Post 972’s  Recreation Area on State Road 159 south of Riley...Admission is free!  Enjoy a great afternoon of family fun and music. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The Westfield Illinois Schools Reunion Festival is August 20 through 22.  A host of activities are planned this year including evening entertainment, the annual parade the 21st at 10, and lots of great food and family fun.  The Festival is a mass school reunion in memory of the old Westfield Schools which merged with the Casey schools 25 years ago, and celebrates the history of the Westfield area schools.  For more information call, 217-246-2666.
